“They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' He will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me"
(Matthew 25:44-45)

This morning as I was waking up, I was thinking of my personal agenda. I remember before I went to bed to pray for friends, for those who are ill or going through some tough times and also for blessings received.

Then it hit me - have I counted my blessings? What are our blessings? Do we think of it as good things that happen in our lives or what we expect to receive? What is due us or what we desire? I thought about it for just a second before I put my feet on the floor.

I started my daily routine of getting coffee, opening the refrigerator to see what I wanted for breakfast and then sauntered over to the pantry to see if I wanted anything in there and decided to have cereal. I then took a bowl out of my cabinet, went back to the refrigerator and got milk, and grabbed a spoon on the way to my table. I sat down and looked at my cereal. Easy – not even complicated.

I sat there at my chair ready to pick up my spoon to eat the cereal and a wave of gratitude hit me. “Look what you have before you Patty.” There was a voice inside that made me look at my routine and my environment. I got out of a warm bed with clean sheets, I have a roof over my head to keep me safe from the elements. A refrigerator and a pantry full of food to nourish my body. How rich I am in those blessings that I take for granted!

What are my blessings? Do I really pay attention to these things? After I ate, I walked over to my computer and looked up the word blessing. I found sixteen references and here are a few:

“Carry each other's burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).

“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased” (Hebrews 13:16).

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you” (John 15:12).

“Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality”
(Romans 12:13).

What I noticed about all of these blessings…well, they are not about me but about serving others. How am I sharing all of my good blessing with others? Yes, I am blessed with my home, my life, and my interests. But where did I receive my blessings? From God – so to make it simple, He blessed me with my daily routine and He expects that I am to do unto others as He has done for me. It is pretty simple, isn’t it?

But if we are honest, we are selfish rather than focusing on the needs of others. It is not about my home, my finances or anything tangible. All of that can go away but it is what we share with our hearts and our good deeds. God enjoys us using His endless blessings but He is also concerned about our hearts and how we treat those less fortunate.

I am blessed beyond measure and I thanked him for my breath, my standing on my two feet and all that His Son, Jesus, did for me. My day is going go well because of Him. Even when it is difficult at times, I know He will take care of me through any trials. However, I must remember to bless others as He has blessed me.

Watch: Count Your Many Blessings

FATHER: Thank You for my daily blessings, even my daily routine. From the very beginning of time, You have blessed us. Help us to bless others as we go through our day by reaching out and sharing your love with one another and to keep our faith and our eyes on You. Let us be anxious for nothing for the rest will fall into place as You have designed it to be. AMEN.
